The US National Park Service has verified that Liberty Island, which was horribly damaged by Superstorm Sandy in early winter of last year, will reopen on 4th of July, aka United States Independence Day this year.

There hasn’t been a reopening date for Ellis Island (presently closed), which was also heavily damaged by the hurricane and needed pervasive reparation and restoration.

For tourists who are planning trips to New York this summer, please note that it is highly recommended for you to book tickets in advance. Tickets for a specific date and time will need to be picked up at the ferry departure point in Battery Park in Manhattan. In order to access the Statue of Liberty’s crown, advance reservations are also required.

Happy 4th of July!
