This July 4th, let us remember who we are as a nation . . .

We are a nation of Native Americans, those with rich culture who lived off the land. 

We are a nation of those who immigrated after—from Latin America, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia, the South Pacific. 

We are a nation founded not on isolationism or territorialism or war, but on welcome and equality.

We are not US and THEM. We are Americans: all colors, creeds, dress, faiths.

We stand for liberty and justice for ALL, not just for those who look like us, believe like us, or whose great-grandparents lived near ours.

Our statues stand for world-wide welcome, for liberty:

The New Colossus

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,

With conquering limbs astride from land to land;

Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand

A mighty woman with a torch…
