At 41-year-old Girls showrunner Jenni Konner claims she’s ‘post-shock’

“I’m too old to be shocked,” Konner laughs during a recent phone call. “I’ve been around too long.”

As the executive producer and writer of the controversial HBO series about modern twenty-something life in New York City, Konner’s mature mentality has been put to the test numerous times throughout the past two seasons — occasionally for the good, but, as happens with any show which tries to reflect youth culture back onto itself, far too often she’s found herself defending what she refers to as ‘a truthful little show.’

“People are connecting with it, it’s sparking lots of debate and that’s what you want,” she says reflectively. “I take it all with a grain of salt.”
